Several tall ship captains testified at the Coast Guard hearing into the sinking of the HMS Bounty that they were surprised the ship set sail with Hurricane Sandy looming.
The Bounty, which made St. Petersburg its winter home port for decades, was on its way from Connecticut to the city when it sank on Oct. 29 off Cape Hatteras, South Carolina, during Hurricane Sandy.
The Coast Guard rescued 14 crewmembers. Robin Walbridge, the Bounty’s captain and a St. Petersburg resident, was lost at sea.…
