William Reece Smith Jr., chair emeritus of Carlton Fields, died Friday morning at age 88.
He had a distinguished legal career and was widely recognized as a consummate lawyer.
Smith was particularly dedicated to pro bono services and diversity. He was an adjunct professor at Stetson University College of Law, an interim president of the University of South Florida in the mid-1970s, a past president of the American Bar Association and a past president of the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce.
