The Lakeland Regional Health System’s board has decided to execute an academic affiliation with the University of South Florida.
The hospital system in Polk County announced in September its intention to become part of the USF Health System and would be the first entity to join.
After months of evaluation and due diligence, the board decided the first step in its goal of becoming a teaching hospital would be to execute an agreement of academic affiliation, according to a written release.
