The first witness testimony is set to begin Tuesday in what is expected to be a three-month civil trial in New Orleans to determine blame in the 2010 BP oil rig explosion and massive spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
In lawyers’ opening statements, the companies involved — well owner BP, rig owner Transocean and cement contractor Halliburton — blamed each other for the rig’s blowout.
