Gov. Rick Scott made a stop at Moffitt Cancer Center Tuesday to announce he is focusing $80 million in his budget for cancer research to help Florida cancer centers meet the requirements to become National Cancer Institute designated facilities.
Moffitt currently is the only NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center in the state.
Sixty million dollars is for existing cancer centers to meet NCI criteria, and $20 million is committed for peer-reviewed research grants, according to a written statement.
