Gov. Rick Scott signed Senate Bill 1792, which places limits on the types of expert witnesses that can be used in medical malpractice lawsuits.
The bill also allows lawyers defending a physician to obtain information about a patient from subsequent health care providers.
The measure is viewed as a way to eliminate confusion in courtroom testimony, curtail frivolous lawsuits and make the state more appealing to physicians.
